Self Love Sunday Q&A: Ava Johanna ⋆ Showit Blog

Self Love Sunday Q&A: Ava Johanna

Let me tell you a quick story about the first time Ava and I met. We were at ALCHEME Health in San Diego and a mutual friend introduced us. Ava told me that she was about to launch a podcast and I immediately said I would LOVE to be a guest on her show. We had literally just met 30 seconds prior to that statement and I definitely think I caught her off guard! Later on she contacted me and asked me to be on her show which just aired last week and I think it was fate that we connected that day at ALCHEME.

Since then we’ve become dear friends and I’m so thrilled to introduce you all to her!

Ava Johanna

Q: Introduce yourself… don’t get all shy on us either!

A: Hi! My name is Ava Johanna and I am a yoga teacher, mindfulness advocate and the host of the Alchemized Life Podcast. I’ve been living in San Diego for six years and absolutely love it compared to the suburbs of North LA County where I grew up. I transitioned from marketing into health + wellness full time a year ago after suffering from major burn out, chronic migraines, and a severe case of “get me out of this place” that I developed while working my 9-to-5. All of my work revolves around creating a happy and balanced lifestyle that is conducive to your current conditions and promotes an exploration of the body, mind and spirit. It is my goal to meet people where they are at and bridge the gap for those that wish to be more than a punch-in number.

Q: Three things you cannot live without

A: My dog Penny, my fiance Corey, and meditation.

Q: Outside of being an advocate for a balanced and alchemized life, what makes you tick?

A: I’m a sucker for creativity and innovation. I love seeing people defying odds and going against the grain of shoulds, woulds, and coulds. I think we often get so concentrated on doing things like others that we forget about the abundant knowledge and creative power within us so whenever I can express myself uniquely, I go for it. I also think it’s incredibly important to not hold ourselves up on some high pedestal. We’re only human and it’s okay if you can’t be the Regina George of Wellness every single day. It’s okay to binge on Netflix every so often and yes, I will eat a bag of Kettle Chips in one sitting if you don’t stop me. Being gentle with yourself is a key learning that I’ve discovered since I began this journey of self-inquiry and health.

Self Love is the practice of tuning in to your mind, body and soul and listening to what it has to offer you

Q: Define Self Love and what it means to you

A: Similar to what I said above, Self Love is being gentle with yourself. Maybe it’s going to yoga, but maybe that doesn’t feel good to you somedays so it’s all about listening to yourself and the wisdom your body holds. I spent far too long ignoring the warnings my body was trying to tell me striving for more money or a higher title at my desk job, and when it was all said and done, I realized the most important thing wasn’t money, it was taking care of myself on a physical and spiritual level. Self Love is the practice of tuning in to your mind, body and soul and listening to what it has to offer you. Honor yourself above all and the rest will fall into place.

Q: Favorite Quote of the moment?

A: I don’t necessarily have a favorite quote, but my favorite thing in the world is Morning Mantras. Each morning I wake up and check my email and receive a daily mantra and it always is so accurate for the day I have and gets me started on a super positive note.

Just love herrrrrrr. Make sure to head over to instagram to follow Ava @avajohanna and definitely consider listening to her interview me on The Alchemized Podcast.
