How To Communicate Without Conflict with Paul Fishman

Hello there, self-lovers!

In this episode, I want to check in with you and see how you’re feeling.

Today we’re talking about how to navigate through everything that’s going on in the world and how to communicate your feelings assertively.
It has been an overwhelming few months with the pandemic, and as things start to open up, we may come to realize that the things we consider to be right might not align with our loved ones.

There is a great example that I share in this episode of what not to do in situations like this. I also share my no-fail 3 step process on how to communicate your feelings with someone who may not agree with you.

How to communicate your feelings with someone who may not agree with you:

  1. Be clear on the ‘why’ behind your need to communicate. Being hungry or tired is not enough reason to talk about your feelings as this can be a translation of your frustration and may not lead to effective dialogue. Make sure you’re not emotionally reactive and figure out what’s going on inside you first.
  2. Own your story. Acknowledge your personal beliefs and find what aligns with the way you want to live your life. Ask permission to communicate your feelings and let people know they don’t have anything to do with them.
  3. Share your story and set the stage to have an adult conversation. Saying things like: ‘I know you may not think the same way but this is how I feel, may I share my story with you?’ can turn into great deep conversations.

Bonus tip! Make sure you do all of this in person or via video call. Having a conversation behind the keyboard may lead to misunderstandings and we want to avoid that.
